Friends Don't Let Friends Learn to Code Alone

by Dan Pickett

Software is built collaboratively, so why would you learn how to do it alone?

Paul Graham, founder of YCombinator, says, “Even if you could do all the work yourself, you need colleagues to brainstorm with, to talk you out of stupid decisions, and to cheer you up when things go wrong.”

So let’s talk about the startup of you. With Launch Academy Online, we surround you with like-minded peers who are going through the exact same journey. We believe that learning is better together, and so should you Here’s why:

Someone to Brainstorm With

When it comes to writing code, there’s always more than one way to solve a problem. When you work with a peer or a group, you benefit from different perspectives and approaches. As this knowledge is exchanged, it really raises the capability and growth potential of the entire group.

Someone to Talk You Out of Stupid Decisions (Or to Reinforce Your Awesome Ones)

Have you ever felt like you might be moving in the wrong direction when working on a project? Learning with others can help you get the sanity check needed when you’ve hit a roadblock. With Launch Academy Online, your peers are a chat message or a Google Hangout away, and they’re working through the same problems you are. Together, you can get the confidence and perspective you need to continue learning quickly.

Someone to Cheer You Up

Learning to code can feel a lot like riding a roller coaster. At first, you’ll have imposing hills to climb, but the payoff is an exhilarating moment of pure joy and excitement. Sometimes, the hills are steeper and taller than you may have imagined. Sometimes, they look more intimidating than they really are. Keeping your confidence levels up while you learn is one of the most important factors in maintaining the motivation to keep learning. As you work with your peers, you’ll find that having someone who can relate to your experience while you’re going through it can be a huge confidence booster, giving you the motivation you need to keep pushing when things get tough.

At Launch Academy, we believe learning is better (and a heck of a lot more fun) when it’s done collaboratively. Learning can’t happen in a vacuum. With Launch Academy Online, you don’t have to go it alone. Your peers, as well as your instructors, are here to help every step of the way.

While you consider your next step, remember that Launch is also an awesome resource. You can learn more about the program here, or just shoot us an email at hello@launchacademy.com if you have any questions. We're happy to help.
